Lent Week 3|| "MY SOUL THIRSTS FOR YOU" | PS. 63

Walking through the Psalms over these last three (3) weeks has been an amazing journey of surrender and rest as scripture leads and guides us into the green pastures and quiet streams of the Good Shepherd.

Scripture has a powerful way of reorienting our hearts' posture and creates an earnest longing for the holy. It repositions our gaze heavenward, restrains distractions, and prohibits the beguilements of the worldly.
As we've spent time reading, meditating, and praying, each Psalm has brought on fresh awareness of our thirst for the living God.

In the flow of Lent, after confession and repentance comes a sweet resolution. Kneeling or lying bare before a just God, who invites us into holy fellowship with him through his son, empties us of ourselves. Hence an urgent need to be filled and consumed by nothing else but the presence and truth of God.

This week's reading won't fail us in helping us cry out to our holy and all-satisfying God for him to quench our longings. Like David, I pray that as you spend more time in the presence of our Savior during this Lenten season, you'll earnestly pursue spiritual fulfillment in the Lord and his steadfast love.

Written by King David, this Psalm, was composed during a very perilous time when adversaries were at his heels, intent on killing him. Quite possibly, King Saul (1 Samuel 23–24) or from his son Absalom (2 Samuel 15–16). The enemies' pursuit likely led him to the barren Judean Desert, which was dry, rocky, and water-scarce. The setting heightens the metaphor of a "dry and weary land."
The verses depict vivid imagery of David's desperation, thirst, satisfaction, and glad trust in God's protection.

May this week's reflection remind us all that we can have a deep sense of joy and security that flows from our trust in God and his presence in the midst of life's wilderness experiences.

Text: Psalm 63.

📌 Our theme will be "A Thirst That Only God Can Fill."

📖 As you read, reread, pray, and meditate on the scriptures, ask:

❓️What have I been consuming that doesn’t satisfy?

🎬This week, try fasting from something that numbs spiritual hunger (noise, scrolling, sugar, etc.).
