Meditation Theme:

As we begin the Lenten season today, we do so with honesty.

Our Scripture reading and meditation today and throughout the week will focus on Psalm 51.

This penitential psalm — “Have mercy on me, O God”— sets the tone of repentance, humility, and renewal of heart.

The Psalter invites us to stand before God without excuses. True repentance is not shame — it is trust that God’s mercy is greater than our sin.

READ Psalm 51 — A Clean Heart

As you read the Psalm, quiet yourself and slowly allow God's word to create a rhythm as you follow and trace the words with your eyes.

Read it at least twice, and write it out in your journal if you are able. As you read and write, observe repeated words and phrases. Also, note details such as the author of the text, the audience of the text, and do your best to identify the main idea of the passage, followed by writing a brief summary of the key theme in your own words.

Reflection & Prayer:

Where do I need cleansing or renewal?

Pray: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
